
Ms. Joyce Johnson was elected to the Center City Council in May 2011. She is a graduate of Center High School and attended the Massey Business College. Ms. Johnson is retired from the United States Postal Service. She is the president of the Shelby County Optimist Club, a board member of the Shelby County Children's Advocacy Board, a board member of Tri-County Action.
Ms. Johnson ran for her council seat because she had an interest in serving the City in an official capacity and had the ability to do so following her retirement. She is committed to improving and protecting the quality of life for the residents of Center. As a councilmember, she hopes to present a fresh face and perspective on important issues facing the city. Ms. Johnson hopes to see the Parks Master Plan come to full implementation, the expansion of the library, and increasing citizen involvement in all phases of city government.
Ms. Johnson attends the Mount Zion C.M.E. Church in Center, where she is the Missionary President.
